About us:

Amazon Web Services Ireland is one of eight global facilities that offer cloud computing solutions to commercial users. Amazon provides a cost-effective server solution for large computing and database requirements that eliminates the need for expensive in-house infrastructure such as server farms and other large data centers.

Since our inception in 2006, we have developed a comprehensive range of products and services that cover cloud computing, networking, content storage and delivery, database management, application services and more.

From our Kilmainham, Ireland facility, we operate several ‘availability zones’ that are isolated and distinct from each other in order to prevent major outages in one zone from affecting others. The Irish office covers the entire EMEA region, and provides infrastructure and support to countries that fall within this region.

1.  Cloud Computing Services

• •   The EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud): This service offers highly scalable virtual servers that use Xen technology for multi-OS mounting on existing hardware.
• •   The Elastic MapReduce (EMR): This service uses EC2 and S3 infrastructure on a Hadoop framework, which allows users to process large amounts of data without the prohibitive costs that it typically entails.

2.   Networking Services

• •   Route 53: This is essentially a scalable DNS (Domain Name System) web service
• •   Virtual Private Cloud (VPC): With this service, an existing network can be linked via VPN to an isolated group of cloud servers on the EC2
• •   Direct Connect: This provides dedicated network access to our data centers, and puts speedier and more economical data throughput capabilities in the hands of the user.

3.   Content Storage and Delivery

• •   Simple Storage Service (S3): This product provides data storage as a web-based service
• •   Glacier: Similar to the S3, the Glacier option is ideal for low-access needs, but provides the same level of availability and redundancy. Typical usage may include data archiving, etc.
• •   Elastic Block Store: This option provides block-level volumes of storage on the EC2.
